WiMAX and Operator Adoption in the US

| Telebriefing Replay

Listen to a Replay of this Telebriefing

The US has been the most significant region in blazing the WiMAX trail, with Sprint Nextel and Clearwire now joining forces to create a national network that could be highly disruptive to existing telecoms operators. This major roll-out is not the only WiMAX activity in the country, with AT&T also owning suitable spectrum and some smaller providers using the technology for broadband and metrozone applications.

In this telebriefing, Caroline Gabriel will examine the likely impact of the WiMAX operators on other wireless activities in the US and the level of investment they will need to make to capture major market share. She will also look at the vendors that will be best positioned to serve the US operators, and at some of the innovative business models that the technology could support.

Finally, there will be new opportunities for WiMAX in the US as new spectrum becomes available, and the technology's backers will have their eyes on the valuable but hotly disputed 700MHz band in particular. The briefing will offer forecasts of how WiMAX operators will fare in that band and the likely impact of the auctions on product development and service roll-out.
