The Anywhere Consumer Experience Show
CES 2008

The emergence of the Anywhere Consumer™ will be among the most significant technological, societal and commercial global trends of the next decade. Aided by a revolution in connectivity and computing, the most successful companies will be those that facilitate the Anywhere Consumer experience. This program puts that experience into context and examines not what the vendor community hopes consumers will do, but what they actually will do.

January 8, 2008
All sessions will be held at The Venetian on the 4th Level in Lando 4202-4203.

9:00 AM - 9:30 AM
Opening Address: Are You Anywhere?
Until recently, consumers possessed very little freedom of choice when it came to services and products tied to communications and entertainment networks. Today, consumers are throwing off the shackles of rigid, homogeneous, totalitarian control of their daily activities (i.e., communicating, entertaining, shopping, educating and getting things done) and taking greater control of their activities. They are becoming what Yankee Group calls Anywhere Consumers.

9:30 AM - 10:00 AM
Next Generation Technologies: Opportunities and Challenges

  • FCC Commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Keynote: What Will Consumers Do? Buy Stuff!

  • Jeffrey Wakefield, VP Marketing, US Integrated Systems Solutions, Verifone

From a capitalistic point of view, a consumer is just a person who shops. An Anywhere Consumer with the right technology can spend money anywhere, anytime. Four distinct disciplines currently define the mobile shopping experience: advertising, search, commerce and payments. How will the industry blend all four together so that the consumer sees only one thing: mobile shopping?

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Digital Children: Mobiles and the Disruptive Future

This talk focuses on the adoption of digital technology by younger generations. Rather than expound upon the phenomena itself, this discussion will provide insight into what to expect as the generations growing up with mouse and cell phone in hand reach adulthood. What role will digital technologies really play in the future? And how can the market take advantage of this now?

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Lunch

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Panel: I Wish I'd Thought of That!

This rapid-fire session showcases innovative ideas, devices and applications that enable the Anywhere Consumer. They may not fit the traditional telecom mold, but they will connect consumers in new and convenient ways.

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Panel: This Garden Isn't Eden

Due to a discernable lag in applications for the mobile environment, the mobile Internet is still relatively closed. This panel asks: How long will consumers continue to accept their walled gardens? What companies will trigger change, and when will the line between the wired Internet and the mobile Internet become irrelevant?

3:00 PM - 3:15 PM
Quick Break

3:15 PM - 4:15 PM
Panel: Now We Insist That You Have Fun

Carriers want to sell data plans that facilitate downloading expensive games, ringtones and "purchased" music. Meanwhile, CE companies that live outside the traditional cellular ecosystem have other ideas. And with a foot in both camps, content providers create the products consumers want. This session examines how to deliver mobile entertainment the way consumers want it.

4:15 PM - 5:15 PM
Panel: Staying in Touch - MetaCommunications in an Anywhere Era

This panel focuses on how people connect. Social networking, video-sharing, VoIP, SMS, IM, LBS--all these applications let consumers keep in contact, share information and make their lives more convenient. How will the next generation of applications further enable Anywhere Consumers to stay in touch?
